Almost three week hiatus, mourning the loss of friend. Family doesn’t have only two legs… Haven’t been able to write much, but I have been listening to music and playing mandolin like there was no tomorrow. I’m sure some good will come out of it.
On a lighter note (and late, this should’ve been up yesterday, sorry), this is one of my favourite bands and I have been listening to them a lot at the moment – The Kooks.
I remember actually watching one of their first singles (probably this one or this one) on MTV, or some other music channel, before life and studies turned me off TV. At the time I couldn’t quite dismiss them as “just another Britpop band”, but it wasn’t until last year’s Konk that I got to pay attention to them again.
There are a couple of beautiful songs on that album, and another few on their first one, which I only recently re-discovered. Luke Pritchard has been hailed by fans as one of the best songwriters of his generation, and while I wouldn’t go so far as to back this up, I do admit there is something beautifully simple about “Won’t you shine, shine on/Because your not done”. It reminds me of someone who is very close to me.
Thanks for your time.
Safety pins holding up the things
That make you mine
About your hair, you needn’t care,
You look beautiful all the time.
